Making Baby Loss Jewellery With an image of The Child’s Hand or Feet.

A little bit about our baby loss jewellery

Last week i received an email from a young mum who had lost her baby at 15 weeks, and who wanted to get a piece of our baby loss jewellery. I find these emails so devastating – here she was planning a burial, emails and organising things in the shadow of something so very sad, but it really puts my own life and it’s minute troubles into perspective. Anyway the mum knew about our site and was fortunate to have images of her baby’s hands that the midwives had taken at the hospital.

She emailed me the handprints (not send through the post as they can get lost) and I got to work on her jewellery. For this piece a  heart was chosen, but remember we can make the jewellery with any shape including round charms and dog tags for men to wear. The handprint images are scanned onto my computer, and a graphics programme translates what is on  the page into something an engraving machine can read, and really the whole process takes less then 30 minutes from start to finish. A lovely feet charm accompanied the pendant and on the back the mum chose these lovely words:

” ive always believed in angels and now i have held one in my arms”.

Please look here to order your baby loss jewellery

I’ve had a few questions this week about the process and how people can go about ordering one, so i hope you find the following useful.

I make all of these peices myself using a precision diamond engraving machine. All of the jewellery is either sterling silver, 9 carat gold or platinum. (all prices refer to Sterling silver pieces but if you want your jewellery in another precious metal please contact me for prices). Each pendant can be either heart, round, oval or dag tag shaped, which are really popular with men. The heart is really popular and comes with a sterling silver ‘baby feet’ charm. All our jewellery is presented in a gift box and comes with a chain ready to wear.

About the baby images

  • if you suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth the hospital often takes images of the baby ands and feet and this is what we use to engrave on the jewellery. Each piece is unique to you are your baby.If there are smudges on the piece we can get rid of these but i have sound most parents leave these in the final piece, so it’s up to you.
  • please scan then email the images to me. Please send as a jpeg  format and NOT a PDF. If your technical abilities are stretched by that, you can photocopy and send the image to me (not original please as it is not unheard of for royal mail to loose post). Email please to fiona@urnjewellery.co.uk or send your photocopy to: 27 Halifax Road, Enfield, Middlesex, EN2 0PP
  • We ship worldwide, and postage is included in the price.
  • if you do not have the actual hands or feet images we make lovely miscarriage memorial jewellery and baby loss message jewellery where you can have a name, date and small message engraved onto a pendant of your choice. Look here for information on our miscarriage jewellery

About the Engraving

Once we have your image we put it though our computer programme, turn it into a file my machine can read, and engrave onto the jewellery. The image is an exact replica of the image on the paper, and is fantastic at replicating all the detail in your image. Most people put something on the back of their jewellery like a name and a date. It is best to put this on the back, as if it goes on the front i have to reduce the size of the hands and feet and in doing so i can loose detail. Pieces can take 2 weeks to make, but if you need this sooner please contact me.

“Hi Fiona Just a little note to say how happy we were with your lovely piece made for my Niece , I gave her it on Xmas Eve she was so overwhelmed it is just gorgeous and will be something she can wear and treasure to remember her precious baby Boy Jack forever. Kind Regards Denise”

I am a very good friend of the mum you mention above and the pendant you made for her has helped her to start making forward steps as life goes on. I saw your pendant for the first time at the weekend and all I could say is that it was just perfect. You have a wonderful talent that helps alot of people.

    Thank you so very much.
