I am a very good friend of the mum you mention above and the pendant you made for her has helped her to start making forward steps as life goes on. I saw your pendant for the first time at the weekend and all I could say is that it was just perfect. You have a wonderful talent that helps alot of people.

Thank you so very much.

A lovely set of ideas. You've mentioned in point 8 about dove releases. This is a lovely idea and there are now Dove Balloons as an alternative too. I also love the idea of Sky Lanterns. They're a lovely idea and thousands of people around the world use them for different types of events. Overall, a great list and great ways of how to remember loved ones.

The above poem is very sad - it conveys the pain and hopelessness as only someone who wears 'those shoes' could, and my heart goes out to its author, and to anyone who's ever felt like this.

My son, Oliver, was stillborn at just over 24 weeks, less than a month ago. I wanted him so much, and my heart was so full of love already for him, that losing him hit me full force. Thankfully I have 2 other children who need their mummy - without them I think I'd implode. I wrote this poem for my lost little boy.

My little boy
will never grow up -
I’ll never see him laugh
or his face light up.
I’ll never sit & hold him
through the night.
To calm his childish
worries and frights.

He’ll never kick a ball,
or play hide and seek.
He’ll never roll in long grass
or climb a stony peak.
He’ll never feel the sun
or the wind or the rain.
He’ll never experience love
or suffer from pain.

A lifetime of possibility
cut off at the source -
Saying goodbye to my Oliver
fills me with pain & remorse.
And my grief is so deep
and so vast and so wide
That my heart broke into pieces
the day that he died.

There's a book called "Beginnings and Endings and Lifetimes In Between" (Bryan Mellonie) which explains the life cycle including death in very basic and simple terms.
I've read it with my little boy (3 years) and my friend has with her 5 year old too. They're quite matter of fact about it at that age.

That poem just epitomises the feelings that a mother feels at the loss of her child. I lost my eighteen year old son last november and I can so relate to thispoem, thanks

Hi, I was reading your article and thought I'd add my two cents. The site you mention in your article is very nice, however one of my favorite online memorial sites is Valley of Life. They have a good variety of memorial templates, even ones specially designed to honor each branch of the US military. They also give you the option to add photos, videos, and audio memories to the memorial, as well as a unique URL to share with all your friends and family. I would highly recommend this site for anybody looking to memorialize a loved one online.
